In Remembrance and Looking Forward

Ten years ago, on 9/11, Linda was waiting on a plane, coming home from the fall antique fairs in France.  I called to tell her not to board, and don’t come back to the U.S. for a while with the events that occurred.  Now is a time to pause and reflect on how that moment and those following it affect our daily lives now and will from now here forward.
Red Baron is gearing up for the most fantastic sale ever.  Simply put, you need to be here.  COME TO THE SALE is a familiar cry here at Red Baron. This time is no exception ... with 6 moving vans of items from a prominent home in the west,  and 2 moving vans of collectibles  from a pair of world famous collectors of the very best,  plus much more-this promises to be the Big Daddy If you have been to a Red Baron sale (or even if you never have) this is one is a must attend.  Never again will you see the volume of the most exquisite antiques, decorative arts, and collectibles while still being wined and dined like never before.  All the stops are out, so come over now...and be here for the Best of the Best - the Creme of the Crop.  October 13, 14 and 15 (Thursday, Friday and Saturday), is just around the corner.  Call now to reserve your seats and arrange your travel.

The BIG One

October is coming soon--that means our next auction is right around the corner.  This auction will be titled "The BIG One."  Now, we have all sorts of reasons for calling it this, but mostly it is the accumulation of treasures.  From a grand dining room set (table, chairs, buffet, and étagères) carved by Valentino Besarel for royalty, to a monumental carved trophy featuring babies and wine nymphs toasting a grand prize vintage from the 1902 Turin Exposition (It's awesome!), plus bars, bars, and more bars, spectacular nautical items from the world famous Put in Bay collection ( a must see and buy), and so much more.
We have so much for this auctions that it will be 3, yes, THREE, big---make that huge---days filled with the best of the best...bar none.
So, make your plans early and reserve your seats now.  See you here in Atlanta October 13, 14 & 15 (Thursday, Friday and Saturday), for The BIG One.  You don't want to miss it.

Action at Red Baron-TV Shows and Fabergé

Today is Tuesday, that means, TODAY is the debut of the much anticipated second season of Paul’s TV show, “Auction Kings.”  The new time is the prime time slot, 9:00pm Eastern.   Be sure to tune in—this will be a good one.
We are moving full speed toward our greatest auction yet--The Big One ... THE FALL SPECTACULAR. You won’t want to miss it.  All of the new items, treasures really, are arriving  daily.  Just in—we got a grand collection of rare and vintage extra large perfume bottles from all over Europe—very cool.  Here is a sneak peak...

We also received a collection of antique gambling things including roulette tables and other gaming tables.
It’s still pretty warm in Georgia, but it’s not so bad.  That means the garden pieces are still doing well and along with the arrival of the Antiques Road Show (which sold out here—rumor is a whopping 10,000 tickets went fast), we have proof that antiquing here in the South is alive and well.  Make sure you are a part of it and don’t miss out!  Make plans to be here in October (or stop by if you’re in town before then!).  We look forward to seeing you in the Fall.

Summer Sale Re-Cap

Hi Everyone,
The summer sale is over.  The heat wave broke for 3 days, and we enjoyed comfortable temperatures, unfortunately the temp is now back up.  The sale was a very typical summer auction at Red Baron with medium attendance an medium prices--and lots of bargains for Red Baron clients.  Clients, as usual, came from all over the globe searching for Red Baron treasures, unusual finds and a good time.  Our turquoise skull came to a final resting place right here in an Atlanta, GA private collection, and sold in the estimate range to a very happy collector.  The peanut wagon is making another trip back across the US to California for stint in the movies.  Also, one our fabulous jewelry stores is making a trip to the big apple.  We have several stained glass windows traveling to Canada, and a lot of things are going to a new development in the Caribbean.  Red Baron has new incredible things on the water as we speak, getting geared up for The Big One … The Fall Sale, and we are emptying one of our French warehouses.  That should be a real buying treat for our clients.  Plus, we have a special shipment of the very best pieces the world has to offer coming from a special collection, more later on that when we get it.  Keep checking the web site, new items are always being added.
Paul’s TV show, Auction Kings, starts a new series this first week in August.  Keep watching it, too. For those traveling to Atlanta, please stop by the new Sandy Springs Design Center for a large array of cool things for you to purchase.
See you soon…

Auction Season Heats Up

Well, the summer auction is about on us and things are heating up in the auction world.  Last week another world record was set at auction.  A photograph, technically a tin type (the only one known of Bill Bonney, a.k.a, Billy The Kid) sold for a whopping $2.3 million to a Florida collector.  The image portrays young Billy standing with his Winchester and his pistol on his side.  It is the only one known to exist.
Red Baron has received even more outstanding items for this sale.  It is without a doubt our biggest and best ever.  Home of the unusual—the best of the best has taken on new meaning.  You must go check out the website - www.rbantiques.com
Great and unusual things are added daily.  So, plan on being in Atlanta this month, July 15-17, for the Summer Extravaganza.  See you there!

Movie Memorabilia-It's not just in L.A.

The auction world is heating up!  With the fantastic results of our long time friend and client, Debbie Reynolds’s, sale in L.A (her first sale of 3 I believe), achieving $22 million plus. Leading the way was, of course, the fabulous dress from “Seven Year Itch,” worn by Marilyn Monroe, which hit a whopping $4.6 million. Other outstanding movie memorabilia also far surpassed the high reserves, including several old movie cameras like the one we have at Red Baron in the next sale, movie posters, and other great collectables.  It looks to be a very interesting sale.  We look forward to seeing you all in person at the auction. We are loaded with some of the best of the best that has ever been offered. There is something for everyone.  Check out the new additions on the website, and call or email for a catalog at no charge.  See you soon...

Come to the Sale!

Summer is heating up!  Here at Red Baron, we are gearing up for an incredible sale, like none we have ever had in the summer.  You must plan on being part of it!  Across the country antiques have been popping up out of attics, from storage, etc.  Properties are starting to sell a bit, and they must be cleaned out.  We just received two great cars that have been in storage for 6 years now.  They are both running and in awesome shape because of who sold them.   Markets across the southeast and sales attendance are way up. There is new interest in paintings and decorative arts, and Red Baron has more than there share of unique and collectible items—and we’re adding to them every day.  We are awaiting a shipment from England of very unique items from the millennium celebration, which a collector finally turned loose of.  We have some micro cars from the famous Double Bubble collection that he has let go.  They are extremely rare-- a wonderful find BMW and others.  Then, as always, we have an unbelievable assortment of garden items and of course bars.  Call or email for a catalog.  Check out our website and Facebook too.  And of course, COME TO THE SALE!
See you in July.

Hotlanta, Marilyn Monroe and Market News

We are busy as a bee here in Hotlanta!  I don’t think they like that term anymore… They are always changing what we call the city and its slogan.

We are getting ready for the largest summer auction we have ever held, and we have the best selection of things we have ever had!

A bit of awesome auction news for you…getting ready for the market, our old friend and client, Ms. Debbie Reynolds is selling her Marilyn Monroe costume.  This is the white dress from the 1955 movie, “The Seven Year Itch” rumored to be worth over $2 million.  As most of you probably remember, Red Baron sold the famous “River of No Return” dress about 20 years ago for the fabulous sum of $15,000.  Some of you probably even remember Charlene modeling it at the auction--as well as her wearing quite well, I might add, at my birthday that party year.  That dress now has sold several times since, the last in NYC for the sum of $1 million plus the buyer’s premium.

Some other auction news… the car market both exotics and muscle cars continues to do well, collectibles it seems in every field, too, are doing well.

Please check out our web site often.  We have new items added daily!

Popcorn Poppers, Pink Diamonds and Sleek Cars

Now that the holiday week end has passed... Red Baron has received probably the best equipped, original Cretors Popcorn Wagon there ever was. This one, while needing a good cleaning, has a rare double popper, a peanut roaster, an ice chest, an original red-hot grill, good wheels and rubber. It’s a great collectible! Along with the wagon, we picked up a fully operational, fully restored Allan Herschell merry-go-round.  Awesome!  We also just received some new fountains and park benches, just in time for the summer.

They are finishing up filming here at Red Baron for Paul’s show, Auction Kings on the Discovery channel.  The new season opens the first week in August.

And I almost forgot we also just received a large lot of estate jewelry, including a pink diamond ring as well as a sweet Jaguar XKE Roadster in black.

We have lots going on, so come see us!

BMW's, A Secret Initiation Chair, and The Rising Market

Here are a few more new additions… We have just received a rare late 1960’s BMW, 2-seater convertible, which qualifies for vintage racing or just cruising on a Sunday.  We’ve got a fabulous 6 door golden oak ice-box ready to go in the pantry.  There is a secret society, very rare, initiation chair that shoots a 32 cal. blank when the mechanism is tripped, Circa1903.  You can imagine-it gives an extreme scare!

On another note...I have noticed that the crowds at local antique fairs are growing all over the country.  The change in weather, too, is bringing out everyone from a long winter.  The people are buying.  Dealers are all reporting good sales in most areas.  Industrial items are staying hot in the cities with their popularity in lofts and warehouses.  However, fine decorator items and unusual things lead the list.  Paintings following next...

Local and regional auctions are also reporting good sales on the same items, but are also seeing occasional big spikes on rare pieces.

A Chinese vase sold for 100 times the estimate in Buffalo, New York, after tremendous world interest, achieving over 1 million dollars.  There was also a report in New York of a rare, collectible astronaut suit selling for over $25,000.  Tiffany windows and lamps are also on the rise again. Recently auction houses have recorded sales of Tiffany windows selling in NY for over a million, and the more common lamps (acorns, etc) changing hands in the mid-teens. It looks as though antiques and collectibles are finally on the rise again. Invest in the past.

Container En Route!

We have a container on the way..... on it, there is a very rare matched pair of stalactites-- awesome and almost never on the market.  These are mounted on short wooden stands and are about 6 feet tall, with gorgeous color. From the same estate collection, there is a whale skull fossil, a Seeburg band box--it's in working condition, but has had a little restoration.  Also, and a 5 foot erectorset display model of train--really nice. Also arriving is the best pair of drafting tables we have ever seen, and a very rare model drafting table. We have, perhaps, the best cast and wrought iron set of wine cellar doors on the market, plus much more.
Stay tuned for more information about new arrivals, and more information about what's coming in on our latest container....
